About the course
Course content
The course gives an introduction to the function of media in society, and discusses the place of children and the young people in the intersection between media culture, school culture and youth culture. In addition, the course presents didactic approaches to problems connected to the teaching of media in schools. The extensiveness , application, modes of expression, content and influences of the media will be analyzed based on fundamental social scientific and humanistic theories. In addition, focus will be put on how teaching and contemporary media pedagogical thinking can make use of young peoples media competence.
Learning outcome
The aim is to provide an introduction to media education as a discipline, and to make students capable of making a critical evaluation of the media situation for children and the young people.
Learning methods and activities
Teaching method and activities: Lectures 2 hours per week, seminars 1 hour per week.
Form of assessment: 4-hour individual written exam.
If less than 10 students sign up for the course it may be canceled.
