Course content
The course gives students the possibility of focusing on central topics and perspectives in education and practicing active methods of working through a project work. The course is organized in two periods. During the first period lectures are given in project work, theory of science and research methods. Seminars are held parallel to the lectures in this period and the target of the seminars are to prepare for good group work as well as exercises and work aimed at developing research designs for each project. The students will be supervised and helped in choosing topics for the project work. In the second period students will work independently in project groups collecting and preparing research data. The project work will be supervised and there will be two workshops arranged during this period. At the end the project groups handle in a project report. All students in a project group are given the same mark. In special cases students may be given the opportunity of handling in an individual project. This may be agreed with lecturer on an individual basis. Project theme and approach have to be approved by lecturer.
Learning outcome
The aim of the course is for students through a project work to carry out a smaller work of research and to develop skills in presenting and communicating the projects results. Further, the aim is to learn cooperation in project groups, to develop understanding of how data and theory can be connected and develop an understanding of basic issues from theory of science and research methods.
Learning methods and activities
Period 1 (6 weeks): Lectures 4 hours per week and work in seminar groups 2 hours per week. Period 2 (8 weeks): Project work with the option of supervision and two workshops. Compulsory Activity: Approved written assignment. Form of assessment: Handling in of project report (15-20 pages). See also guidelines concerning the project report where among other things, deadlines and formal requirements are defined.
If less than 10 students sign up for the course it may be canceled.
