About the course

Course content

The students have to choose one out of three courses: quantitative research methods, historical research methods, and text analysis. The course are organized as seminars with practical exercises to give students experiences with formulation of research problems, planning a study, developing research instruments, collecting and analyzing data and reflecting on limitations.

Learning outcome

To prepare students for conducting a study and writing their own master thesis.

Learning methods and activities

3 hours weekly the last half of the semester (7 weeks). Students are expected to write an individual paper based on the exercises. The plan for the paper have to be accepted by the instructor. Compulsory activity: Participation in 80 % of the teaching program.

Required previous knowledge

Either Bachelor Degree majoring in Education Studies (82,5 Credits) which includes exams in the following courses: PED 1000, PED 1001, PED 1002, PED 1003, PED 1004 (the obligatory courses in the Bachelor Degree), or completed the first three years of teacher training-/pre-school teacher training, or Bachelor Degree including 2 years of teacher training/pre-school teacher training, or Bachelor Degree and 1 year teacher training, or Bachelor Degree majoring in psychology, or equivalent education (for example Social Work, Social Education, Occupational Therapy, Nursing or 3-year Social Education and Child Welfare Work), in addition to 2 years’ relevant work experience.
