About the course

Course content

This course engages students in learning and applying essential distinctions relevant to the experience of helping within organizational settings. The identification of core competencies applicable to counseling, consulting, coaching and leadership will enable students to successfully meet the demands of these activities. Central to this course is the process of developing capacities for our growth as human beings and our ability to help facilitate this growth in others.
Course pedagogy will include readings, classroom dialogue and lecture to enhance self-awareness as a tool for learning, as well as the identification of core competencies and the process of their development. It will also apply this learning through practice and facilitate its integration through reflection.

Learning outcome

The aim of the course is to promote knowledge about, and insight into, leadership development and coaching through theory and practice.

Learning methods and activities

Total 7 days (each 7 hours). Class project involves videotaping a client coaching session, reviewing and editing this video, and presenting it and learnings from the project in class. This must be completed in order to hand in the essay. Other compulsory activity: Participation in 80% of the Teaching Programme.
Form of assessment: Essay.
The course is reserved for students admitted to Master of Science in Counselling ("studierettskrav").
