About the course

Course content

Media "bildung" and media education builds on PED1014 Media Education and Media Competence, but can also be combined with other educational and media subjects within bachelor or master degree. The subject offers a more profound insight into theoretical and methodological problems in media education. The subject matter is studied in the light of challenges introduced by the new media technology in the globalized world. The subject will focus on the interaction between the school culture, youth culture and convergent media culture. Special attention is paid to media education from an empowerment perspective. Ethical problems connected to media culture are also discussed.

Learning outcome

The aim of the course is to promote knowledge about, and insight into, media education from the media "bildung" perspective.

Learning methods and activities

2 hours lectures per week, 1 hour seminar per week.
Compulsory activity: Approved written assignment. Form of assessment: 4-hour individual written exam. The written assignment must be passed before the written examination.

If less than 10 students sign up for the course it may be cancelled.

Required previous knowledge

As for admission to the masters program in Education and Upbringing, or a media education. The course can be taken at the bachelor level, given that you have 15 credits within Education.
