About the course

Course content

In this course, the different kinds of tests used in selection, counselling and research will be presented. Examples of tests that would be included are personality tests, ability tests, vocational interest tests, tests of emotional intelligence, tests on team skills, tests on leadership, and tests on change processes. Methodological is evaluations of a tests validity and usefulness in selection, counselling and research important. The course includes exercises in job analysis and task analysis. Work analysis refers to the analysis of demands and characteristics of a job. Task analysis is analysis of a task’s content.
Selection is about choosing the right person to a job. Human factor is about how to adjust work tools, work place and work tasks in such a way that they are fitted to the worker. This course includes methods to evaluate: design, human contribution to safety, team work and organization.

Learning outcome

The students should:
-Know about different kinds of tests (personality tests, ability tests, tests on emotional intelligence, tests on vocational interests, test on team skills, tests on leaderships and test on change processes) that could be used in selection, counselling and research.
-Learn about the five factor model for personality
-Learn to administer, score and interpret test results for NEO PI-R which is a personality test developed from the five factor model of personality.
-Learn to evaluate a tests reliability, validity and usefulness
-Learn about work analysis and task analysis
-Learn about methods used in industry to evaluate design, human contribution to safety, team work and organization

Learning methods and activities

Teaching forms: Lectures, seminars, supervision and group exercises.
The course is reserved for students admitted to a particular programme. Exchange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission.
