About the course

Course content

Through experience with research procedures in a variety of smaller research projects, this course will broaden theoretical and methodological knowledge in cognitive and biological psychology. This is done through project work in laboratories on either humans or animals.
You will work on various smaller projects to achieve a broad knowledge of the research used in the field of cognitive and biological psychology:

* In the Speech Laboratory you can explore the effect aural experience has on development and perception of spoken language. You may also study the way we speak to children and how it relates to the child's perception.
* In our Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory you can research how infants learns about themselves and world around them, how they time their actions and how they develop control over their body composure. In addition you may explore how and why some infants develop problems and in which way to spot such neural anomalies early on.
* In our research group for learning and skill development you can study learning and skill development by studying mechanisms involved in the learning process.
* In our animal laboratory you can study the sense of smell by studying moths and seek further knowledge surrounding the logics of chemosensory information processing.
* At our ecological cognitive laboratory you can study the evolution of cognition by examining memory, uncertainty and planning among corvids. You may also study human cognition by studying searching-strategies, cooperative-strategies and what controls the selection of our partners.
* In addition we offer research on the neuropsychological profiling of gaming addicts with a focus on executive functions and reasoning abilities.

Other research topics may also be available and will be announced as such. Exercises can include, among other things: activities with active participation in seminars, project discussions, gathering of data and laboratory work. The evaluation format will be specified within each module.

Learning outcome

Learning ojectives:
- gives the possibility to develop both practical and theoretical knowledge in Cognitive/Biological Psychology through active participation in ongoing research.
- give practice in presentation of research results.

Learning methods and activities

The term will consist of daylong seminars and days with independent study with tuition in between. The amount of each is specified by whoever will be responsible for the course at any given time.

The course is reserved for students admitted to a particular programme. Exchange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission.
