Learning outcome

The main objective of the organized academic training component is to provide insight into theories and methods that are necessary when working with the thesis, but also to contribute to the general academic training that is required for the candidate's future endeavours. The organized academic training segment is to complement the work with the thesis, and qualify for research activity or other work that requires academic insight. The organized academic training component also aims to provide a basis for independent, critical and reflective relationship towards one's own and other's research through the specialisation of theoretical courses, as well as provide training in the dissemination of research results in academic- and other forums.

Learning methods and activities

The course is administered by a supervisor. This allows a large degree of adaptation to individual approaches to problems. The course includes 10 hours of supervision including preparation and supplementary work. (This is in addition to ordinary supervision). The course is to have the following contents:
-Approved individual study syllabus (ca. 400 pages).
-Completed supervision- 10 hours, individually or in a group with candidates working with the same topics.
-The candidate is to hand in a written piece of work which accounts for the approaches to problems discussed between the supervisor and candidate. Form, scope and level of the written assignment is described in separate guidelines.
-The candidate is to make a presentation of the written assignment in a PhD forum during participation in the Programme.

Registration for PSY8000 is done via Stud web, but requires in addition that the PhD candidate personally establishes contact with a potential academic supervisor at the Department of Psychology. An agreement will be made between the candidate and the supervisor on a seperate form which is available from the Department of Psychology.
