About the course

Course content

PSYPRO4040 is a basic course in the theory and method of developmental psychology. In addition to themes such as emotional, cognitive, social and physical/motor skills development, themes such as deviation during development, physical/hormonal changes during puberty, adult development and crises and changes linked to old age will be addressed. The students will be given training in systematic observation in connection with assessing the level of development and charting the interaction. Training in interviewing children and parents will also be provided. Longitudinal designs and profile studies in developmental studies will be discussed.

Learning outcome

The course will provide students with knowledge of the most important concepts and issues in developmental psychology. The teaching will include emotional, cognitive, social and physical/motor skills development.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, demonstrations, field observation, laboratory observation and interviewing children under tutorial guidance.

The course requires admission to the 6 year clinical psychologist programme.
