About the course

Course content

By way of example, topical themes will be the relationship between professional competence and personal qualities, an excursion to a psychological workplace with the aim of raising knowledge about psychologists’ work assignments and work situation, reflections on one’s own history and development, communications skills, the roles of clients and therapists, teamwork, guidance and collegiate support and ethical conflicts affecting the profession and research work. Students will gain knowledge of clinical psychological work through having observer status in the Institute’s clinics. The course runs over five semesters and the issues addressed will be related to applied and ethical aspects drawn from the teaching in the five basic courses.

Learning outcome

The course will provide an introduction to the professional and personal development demands involved in working as a professional psychologist and will contribute to raising awareness of the relationship between personal qualities and professional competence, thus preparing students for work in clinics.

Learning methods and activities

Seminars and group tutorials. Approx 30 hours seminar per semester.

The course requires admission to the 6 year clinical psychologist programme.

Compulsory assignments

  • Seminar og veiledning i grupper (minst 80% deltakelse).
