Course content

The course builds on the basic understanding of qualitative research. The course goes through in depth the most common data collection methods (interview, focus group and participant observation) and a selection of current data analysis approaches (egg thematic analysis, phenomenological analysis) in qualitative research. The course also looks at the various criteria used to assess the quality of qualitative research work and writing of qualitative research.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • The student has a broad knowledge of the most common qualitative data collection methods and data analysis in psychology.

Skills:

  • The student can independently collect and analyze unstructured qualitative data to illuminate research issues in connection to the thesis and in other contexts.

General competence:

  • The student has developed a critical perspective to consider the possible advantages and disadvantages of the use of the qualitative research approach.

Lectures, seminars and exercises.

Compulsory assignments

  • Written assignment.
  • Attendance at Workshop Interview
