About the course
Course content
The course provides a survey of the theoretical and methodical requirements of the academic (comparative) study of religion. It consists of:
- A basic survey of the history of the academic discipline.
- A basic survey of the various theoretical methods, such as sociology of religion, psychology of religion, phenomenology of religion, and anthropology of religion.
- A basic survey of questions dealing with the historical and contemporary study of religions.
Learning outcome
The course aims to provide students with a basic theoretical and methodical foundation for further studies of specific religious traditions and/or movements.

Learning methods and activities
Instruction consists of lectures.
Required previous knowledge
None.
Course materials
The required reading list will be available at the beginning of the semester. Students are not allowed to consult any text-books during the 6 hours exam.
