About the course
Course content
The course is a historical and comparative study of religions originating in Southern Asia, with an emphasis on Hinduism and Buddhism. The course will provide students with a basic understanding of the teachings and practices of Hinduism and Buddhism, both past and present.
The correlation between religion, culture, and society in the region is stressed, furthermore the course also touches on other religions important to the region, whether originating in the region or imported.
The course also considers the occurence of Southern Asian religions in various countries and regions where they are widespread, for example in the New Age movement and in migrant environments.
Learning outcome
The course will provide the student with a basic understanding of the historical conditions and importance of the various relevant religions and minorities, and account for their present condition and development.

Learning methods and activities
The instruction consists of lectures. Lectures will be in English.
