About the course

Course content

The course examines how identity is formed, expressed, maintained and changed. It explores organizing principles such as kinship, gender and age. In addition, ethnic relations, friendship and different forms of individuality are examined. During the semester students should write an assignment - to be approved by the Department. The course is obligatory for all BA students in Social Sciences, specializing in Social Anthropology.

Learning outcome

To develop basic knowledge about central perspectives on social differentiation and social identity.

Lectures/seminars/written assignments (approx. 48 hours)
Deadline for the written assignment: 1 November.
