About the course
Course content
The course covers different institutional ways of distributing culturally-defined values and the social forms that are generated by competition for such values. The course also provides an overview of forms of conflict resolution and collective political action, and studies the adaptation of different societies to the natural environment (ecology). Themes included are: economic production and circulation, economic spheres and modernization, forms of socio-cultural integration (small-scale societies, tribal societies, states and civilizations), legal institutions, and the distinction between culture and nature. During the semester students should write an assignment - to be approved by the Department. The course is obligatory for all BA students in Social Sciences, specializing in Social Anthropology.
Learning outcome
To develop basic knowledge about central perspectives on economic production and circulation, ecological adaptation and political processes.
