About the course
Course content
The course provides an introduction to the anthropological study of forms of knowledge, religious beliefs, cosmologies, and modes of thought and classification. The approaches are applied to both traditional and modern societies. Themes include: myth, magic, taboo, witchcraft, millennial movements, rituals, and science as a mode of investigation. During the semester students should write an assignment - to be approved by the Department. The course is obligatory for all BA students in Social Sciences, specializing in Social Anthropology.
Learning outcome
To develop a basic social anthropological understanding of religious life, world views, and systems of thought and classification.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures/seminars, written assignments (approx. 48 hours).
5-hour written exam.
