About the course

Course content

The course examines the economic, political, social and cultural aspects of social change. Students are presented with different forms of modernization and globalization theories from the classical works in the Social Sciences to present-day discussions. Themes included are: transnational movement of commodities, peoples and cultural expressions and the local appropriation of global phenomena.

Learning outcome

To develop a basic understanding of different social scientific perspectives on global, social, and cultural processes of change.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures/seminars and written assignments (approx. 24 hours).
One approved written assignement.
4-hour written exam.
