About the course

Course content

The course presents approaches to aesthetic and expressive manifestations: music, dance, theatre, art, architecture and literary genres. It also provides an introduction to anthropological analysis of material culture. The course shows how art forms are expressions of social realities, and it identifies an essential aesthetic element in ‘pragmatic’ practices. It includes local understandings of time and space as they are expressed in, or constituted by, aesthetic activities.

Learning outcome

To develop an analytical anthropological understanding of various aesthetic ways of expression.

Lectures/seminars and written assignements (approx. 16 hours).
Form of assessment: Home exam.
