About the course

Course content

Students select a topic of their own choice for their Master’s thesis. The thesis should be based on independent fieldwork either within or outside Norway, but dissertations based on other research methods will also be accepted. The course on scholarly writing includes training in data analysis and the composition of a thesis.

Learning outcome

To develop basic analytical and interpretative skills in the study of social and cultural phenomena.

Learning methods and activities

Writing course and individual supervision.
Obligatory presentation at seminar.
Master’s thesis and oral presentation.
The course is reserved for students admitted to a particular programme ("studierettskrav"). Exhange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Sosialantropologi (MSANT)

Required previous knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology or the equivalent, SANT3000, SANT3100 og SANT3002.
