About the course
Course content
The students will be introduced to the sociological theories and the sociological knowledge about the society structure and how it changes. The course will give the students an introduction to how classical and modern theories can be used to understand social institutions and social unequality. The course will give the students training in analyzing a social question with the use of sociological theories and perspectives, and to present the results of the analysis in a professional way.
Learning outcome
To provide the students with a basic sociological understanding of the modern society.
Learning methods and activities
4 hours of lectures every week throughout the semester according to the lecture plan. Seminars two hours per week. The organization of the exercises will be presented at the beginning of the semester.
The compulsory activity can only be completed in the spring semester.
Forms of assessment: A 5 hour written exam.
Compulsory assignments
- Approved term paper and participation on relevant seminars.
