Course content
Spain was originally the crib of the Spanish language. Today, however, Spain represents a minority in the Spanish world. This course gives an introduction to the countrys culture, history and society. The course approaches selected topics of current interest through a variety of sources, such as historical documents, documentary movies and literary texts, as well as articles and secondary literature.
Learning outcome
During the course, students should get a general understanding of Spain's culture, history and society and a gain detailed knowledge of selected topics. They should develop awareness to the use of sources in communicating their cultural and historical knowledge.
Through their work, the students should further develop their language proficiency and be able to communicate their knowledge about culture and history in correct Spanish, both in writing and orally.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and group sessions. The course involves a high degree of student activity, both through preparations at home and oral participation in lectures and group sessions. The course is taught in Spanish.
Compulsory assignments
- 1 oral activity, approx. 10 min.

Recommended previous knowledge
The course is taught in Spanish. SPA1002 and SPA1401 or equivalent.
Required previous knowledge
Requires admission to the one-year programme in Spanish or the bachelor's programme in European Studies and Foreign Languages (Spanish).
