Course - Language: What, why, how? - SPRÅK1001
Language: What, why, how?
About
About the course
Course content
The course is spread over a period of 4 terms (from the 2. to the 5. term). The course aims to bridge the gap between language as a university study and as a teaching subject in Norwegian schools. It presents different aspects of our knowledge of languages, from a linguistic, psychological and sociological perspective. The course also sees different theoretical approaches to language acquisition in relation to the European Language Portfolio and the European Qualifications Framework. The variety of text forms (for example genres, digital texts, the interaction between text and image) will also be discussed, with reference to the challenges and opportunities this variety represents for the teaching of languages.
Learning outcome
Students will acquire a greater awareness of what is implied in linguistic competence. They will also gain insight into central aspects of language acquisition, and they will be made familiar with the developments in the European language teaching policy. They will also be able to distinguish and recognize different types of texts, learn to use digital tools for learning purposes, and get practice in presenting language theories.
