ST1201 - Statistical Methods
Course content
The course provides an introduction to statistical methods and includes point estimation, the method of moments, least squares estimation, maximum likelihood estimation, general introduction to interval estimation and testing of statistical hypothesis, methods for normal distributed random variables based on T-distribution, chi-squared distribution and F-distribution, testing in binomial models, group comparison, methods for normal approximation, simple regression and analysis of variance for normally distributed data, analysis of correlation, goodness of fit tests and non-parametric tests.
Learning outcome
The course gives the students an introduction to, and an theoretical understanding of, the basic principles in statistical inference. Further, the commonly used statistical methods will be dealt with. The student will through the exercises be able to choose the correct method and do the analysis of data sets in simple practical situations.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and compulsory exercises. Written final examination is the basis for the grade awarded in the course. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
