About the course
Course content
This course offers an introduction to the structure of the language and covers topics in the syntax, phonology, morphology and morphosyntax of Swahili. The course also offers a basic introduction to oral usage, translation and language comprehension. The course may be taken as a part of the bachelor's degree in African studies.
Learning outcome
SWA1101 is suited for students with no or a little knowledge of Swahili. Students learn to use a basic vocabulary in everyday Swahili speech, and the basic grammatical rules for sentence structure and word positioning. Writing focuses on texts that tell and describe things in the past, present and in the future.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and practical exercises in oral and written skills.
More on assessment: Obligatory exercises have to be approved before students are allowed to take the written exam. The size of the essay must be between 150-200 words.
