About the course

Course content

The course addresses how specific empirical studies are accomplished, which methods that is relevant for different problems, and advantages and disadvantages of different empirical approaches. A series of empirical work with different economic problems, different characteristics of the data and different econometric methods will be examined. Considerations of reasonable approaches in the specific cases will be emphasised. Independent empirical work will be included in the course.

Learning outcome

The students should be able to utilize a broad menu of econometric methods and to carry out their own analyses of specific economic problems. The students should be able to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the methods used in specific analyses.

Learning methods and activities

4 hours of lectures every week. One compulsory term paper. The course can be taught in English if requested and as by the Department’s evaluation.
The course is an optional master's course, and it is not taught every semester. Check www.ntnu.no/econ/english/info.
