About the course

Course content

The course builds on the course SØK3003 and discusses newly developed macroeconomic theories and new applications of macroeconomic theories. Examples on topics that are likely to be included are monetary policy and business cycles, aggregated effects of heterogeneous agents in the economy, new perspectives on the consumption and investment decisions, institutions and economic growth, and political economy and macroeconomic policy.

Learning outcome

The course will give the students knowledge and insight in new macroeconomic research results, including issues related to monetary and fiscal policy, economic growth, and institutions. The students will be able to apply the models as a tool to analyse macroeconomic consequences of exogenous shocks.

Learning methods and activities

4 hours of lectures every week. One compulsory term paper. The course can be taught in English when there are English-speaking students who meet the recommended previous knowledge.
The course is an optional master's course, and it is not taught every semester. Check www.ntnu.no/econ/english/info.
