Course - BM3 Construction Materials - TBA4122
BM3 Construction Materials
About
About the course
Course content
The course will give theoretical, basic knowledge and/or practically applicable knowledge regarding the main building materials (concrete, metals, wood, polymers). The teaching will comprise the following topics: composition and structure of materials, important properties related to performance and application of materials (strength, building physics, durability, resource- and environmental issues); production and application of materials as well as material selection.
Learning outcome
The students shall learn basic theory on main building- and construction materials. This will cover material composition, structure, properties, performance and applications in buildings and structures. This will be a combination of theoretical, basic knowledge in material technology, knowledge of selection and application of materials during engineering, construction and use of buildings and structures and of application of building materials in relation to economic and environmental issues. The student should learn how to explain and justify a choice of construction materials within the framework of long term sustainable development.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, laboratory exercises, written exercises, project team work. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
Compulsory assignments
- Lab. exercises, Written exercises, Project in groups
