About the course

Course content

Structural analysis of loadbearing brick and block masonry. Structural design of walls, columns and beams in unreinforced and reinforced masonry. Production of masonry and properties of constituents. Application of simple structural models for calculation and design of building parts and detailing. Masonry construction work is also included.

Learning outcome

The course will provide basic knowledge in calculation and design of masonry structures and masonry buildings.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and compulsory calculation exercises.
The course is delivered in cooperation with Department for Structural Design. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
