Course content
The course comprises some advanced topics regarding fire technology and fire safety of buildings and construction works. It presents the principles of analysis, engineering and construction of works with various requirements of fire safety, e.g. as verified by use of risk analysis. It will be shown how a required safety level can be achieved by various measures - active/passive and single/in combination. The course will give good knowledge about fire properties of materials, fire resistance of components and structures, and an introduction to the principles and application of calculation methods and simulation tools. Through the course, the students will get a knowledge base for the exercise of fire safety engineering.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The students shall have in-depth knowledge on principles, methods and tools for documentation of fulfilled requirements regarding fire safety engineering.
Skill: Understanding relations and important aspects in the field of fire safety engineering to such a level that one is able to perform qualitative risk evaluations and design fire safety strategies.
General knowledge: Have a relatively good insight into material properties in fires, material fire testing methods and different models for fire development. In addition have an overview of the different Norwegian laws, regulations and standards which concern fire safety, and at the same time have some insight on their contents.
