Course content

The course focuses on the leadership role and how the leader should act in organisations that are to introduce or have introduced ICT-based collaboration. The manager should be able to facilitate the interaction of different disciplines in a purpose- and cost-effective way to achieve the goals of the organisation. The course also deals with the management of multicultural and interdisciplinary workplaces. These workplaces can be both co-located and distributed, so the manager must be able to handle both of these cases in a good way. Key management concepts in addition to collaboration management will be team management and knowledge management.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, the following overall learning outcomes must be achieved:

Knowledge

Students must:

  • Have knowledge of different types of companies and know about their core and support activities.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of how to facilitate interaction between people and people with different professional backgrounds.
  • Have knowledge of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural communication and be able to facilitate good communication and interaction between different disciplines.
  • Be able to apply knowledge to find out how a leader should act as a coach or facilitator, in processes where the introduction and application of digital interaction is central.
  • Have knowledge of how to handle deviations and deal with crises.
  • Have knowledge of team management in general and virtual teams in particular.
  • Have an overview of general approaches to knowledge management and knowledge sharing using interaction technology.
  • Have knowledge of how collaborative management can contribute with respect to the psychosocial working environment and social sustainability in the workplace.

Skills

Students must:

  • Be able to apply specialist knowledge about different types of companies to handle different management challenges in connection with the introduction and implementation of digital collaboration.
  • Be able to apply specialist knowledge to practice a coaching leadership style in a company that uses digital interaction.
  • Be able to apply specialist knowledge to achieve good communication and interaction between different disciplines and between different cultures in the organization.
  • Be able to apply specialist knowledge to handle deviations and crises in the organization.
  • Be able to apply specialist knowledge to implement necessary changes and adjustments in the companies.

General competence

Students must:

  • Be able to convey subject matter about management concepts and collaboration that contributes to companies achieving their goals in an inspiring, motivating and cost-effective way.

Learning methods and activities

Student-active interaction learning with utilization of relevant interaction technology, as well as lectures.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT WORK: Participation in a minimum of 75% of the learning activities. The activities are announced at the start of the course. In special cases where 75% participation is not satisfied, the student can enter into an agreement with the course coordinator (emneansvarlig) about alternative learning activities.

ASSESSMENT: Essay that counts 100% of the total grade. This is written in groups of up to 3 people. All aids allowed.

Postponed assessment: March.

If the students have a postponed assessment, new tasks will be defined.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Digital Transformation (ITMAIKTSA)

Required previous knowledge

The course is reserved for students admitted to the Master's Degree Program in Digital Collaboration.
