About the course

Course content

Architecture of database systems. Query optimization. Parallel and distributed database systems. Temporal databases. Data mining and data warehousing. New database architectures and query operators.

Learning outcome

To give students introduction to some advanced topics within database systems, and a basis for understanding topics in current database research.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and project. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a final written test (75%) and project (25%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
