About

About the course

Course content

Taxonomies for various types of information systems. ERP systems: typical functionality, methods for selection and introduction. IS strategy, process improvement. Methods for IS development: analysis of organisations' needs, modelling of information, data flow and business processes (as-is and to-be situation), quality evaluation for models and systems. Requirements specification, with a particular focus on oral elicitation techniques.

Learning outcome

The student shall get a long-term basis to be able to work as a consultant or IT leader in organisations' acquisition of large information systems (both packaged and custom developed solutions). This implies knowledge of different types of IS-solutions, with areas of use, strengths, and weaknesses, understanding of ERP systems and IS strategy, critical skills in assessing suggested solutions, and deep insights in methods for needs analysis and requirements specification, with practical skills for modelling information and business processes.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and exercises. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes exercises (20%) and a final written test (80%). The exercises will partly be done as teamwork. The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the result for the portfolio as a whole is given as a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
