About the course
Course content
The topic will establish definitions, principles, frameworks and architectures for different types of distributed systems - open distributed processing as well as distributed operating systems. There will be discussions of goals and trade offs, advantages and challenges, plus services and protocols. The topic will focus on transaction processing and multimedia aspects as well as realtime issues and security/safety aspects. Important components will be client server architectures, WWW-technology and distributed file systems. Importent standards/examples will be OMG CORBA, OSF/DCE and JAVA RMI.
Learning outcome
The topic shall give the students a basic understanding of concepts, models, methods and techniques for analysis, design, construction and implementation of systems where several computer systems take part.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.

The topics TDT4186 Operating Systems and TTM4100 Communication - Services and Networks, or corresponding knowledge.
