Course content
Introduction to storage media and systems. Cost models. The interplay between the primary and secondary memories, buffers and buffer operations. Access methods for one-dimensional and multi-dimensional keys. Sorting and relational algebra. Storing matrices. Storing streaming data, audio and video. Datawarehouses, establishing, managing and searching for information using algerba-like methods and aggregations. Realization of transaction control, logging and re-establising.
Learning outcome
This course gives insight into methods for storing large data volumes, as well as into methods for retrieving information from large data volumes.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. The exercices will account for 30% of the final grade. Grades on the exercises will be calculated from the number of exercises completed. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
