About the course
Course content
The subject comprises: What are words and languages? Grammar and syntactic analysis of natural language. Semantics and logical form. Statistical methods for language understanding. Dialogue analysis and conversational agents. Machine translation. Speech-based interfaces.
Learning outcome
The subject shall give a deeper insight into theory and methods for natural language understanding.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. The subject requires an approved project report with theoretical and experimental content. Portfolio evaluation is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a final written exam (55%) and work (45%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.

TDT4136 Logic and Reasoning Systems or equivalent.
