Course - Heat Pumping Processes and Systems - TEP4255
Heat Pumping Processes and Systems
About
About the course
Course content
TEP4255 deals with heat pumping processes and systems applied in different kinds of refrigeration units, from smaller plants in domestic units and supermarket, to industrial plants in food and process industry, including gas liquefaction. Historic development, and importance of refrigeration technology. Thermodynamic analysis of different refrigeration processes; with special emphasis on thermodynamic losses. Properties of working fluids, including effects on the environment. Natural, environmentally friendly, working fluids. Refrigeration system components, including compressors and heat exchangers. Component design. System solutions for different kinds of applications, both refrigeration and heat pump systems.
Learning outcome
The goal for this subject is to give the students fundamental knowledge about thermodynamic process analysis, working fluids, components and system solutions for different heat pumping plants (from domestic refrigerators to gas liquefaction plants (LNG)). Further to train them to design environmentally friendly plants.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, theoretical exercises, practical exercises in laboratory and excursions. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
