Energy Use and Energy Planning - Heat Energy, Specialization Course
About
About the course
Course content
The course will normally consist of two themes each at 3,75 study-points. Choice of themes is done in consultation with the responsible teacher of the chosen project work. Each department/faculty has a list of its themes on their web-site. By choosing the specialization project the student will professionally be included in one of the following professional groups at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering:
- Thermal Energy (TEP4515).
- Industrial Process Technology (TEP4525).
- Energy and Indoor Environment (TEP4535).
- Engineering Fluid Mechanics (TEP4545).
For more information on possible, relevant themes and teachers you may look at the specialization courses referred to at the respective professional groups above.
One of the following themes at Department of Electric Power Engineering:
- Efficiency improvement of electricity grids (associate professor II Eivind Solvang).
- Local/regional energy planning (professor II Per Finden).
- Hydro Power Scheduling - ELK 15(professor Olav B. Fosso).
- Transmission System Operation Planning - ELK 14 (professor Olav B. Fosso).
- Electricity trading and risk management (professor Ivar Wangensteen).
Learning outcome
The specialization course will give the students knowledge and skills in analyzing and solving professional problems in a scientific and technically professional way. It is presupposed that the course is professionally close related to the specialization project. The course may be focusing on technical, economical and environmental analysis.
Learning methods and activities
The form of instruction may be lectures, exercises, seminars, laboratory and field works and also directed self study. Problem and project based learning in study groups may also be used. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. Delayed exam will be arranged within the exam period.
Compulsory assignments
- Exercises/Laboratory exercises
Recommended previous knowledge
