Digital Design and Basic Electrical Circuits
About
About the course
Course content
First part of the cource: Conventions, circuit elements, Kirchoff´s laws, Ohm´s law, simple resistive circuits, techniques of circuit analysis, capacitance and first order RC-circuits.
Second part of the cource: Digital design, number systems, arithmetic operations, coding, boolean algebra, logic gates, simplification methods, combinational logic, flip flops, counters, shiftregisters, memory technology, state machines and introduction to programmable logic.
Learning outcome
The course gives an introduction to electrical concepts and "analog" circuit theory as a base for understanding both electrical and computer engineering. The students should be able to understand and design simple circuits and systems built with digital electronic circuit elements. The students should have a base for understanding and designing simple circuits and systems built from digital electronic circuit elements.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. Theory and labratory assignments in groups of 2 students. All assignments are compulsory except for one theory and one laboratory assignment. Intencive period of lectures (2F + 2F each week) in the first part of the semester. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
Compulsory assignments
- Exercises and laboratory assignments
