About the course

Course content

First and Second law of thermodynamics. Equations of state, reversible and irreversible processes, entropy, thermodynamic potentials. Maxwell's velocity distribution, mean free path, heat conduction, diffusion. Boltzmann distribution.

Learning outcome

This couse aims at providing an introduction to the basic theory of thermodynamics and kinetic gas theory, as well as experimental methods of physics.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and compulsory laboratory excercises and problem solving. A re-sit examination may be changed from written to oral.
