About the course

Course content

Electrostatics: Coulomb's law, Gauss' law, electrostatic field and potential, capacitance and dielectrics. Magnetostatics: Magnetic field and forces, Biot-Savart's law, Ampere's law, and magnetic materials. Electromagnetic induction: Faraday's law, Lenz' law, inductance. Electromagnetic waves. Maxwell's equations. Waves: Mechanical waves, light, interference and diffraction.

Learning outcome

The students are introduced to common physical phenomena, particularly within electricity and magnetism in view of technological applications.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, compulsory laboratory exercises and home exercises. 2/3 of the home exercises are compulsory. A re-sit examination may be changed from written to oral.
