About the course

Course content

Interaction between light and matter. Tensor notation. Material optics. Crystal optics. Non-linear response. Introduction to laser physics and safety. Practical issues: Laser techniques, characterization of thin films and/or wave guides.

Learning outcome

The subject introduces the interaction between light and matter, application of optical measurement techniques and lasers.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and demonstrations, problem solving and compulsory lab-work. The course will be given in English if students on the international master program in physics are attending the course. A re-sit examination may be changed from written to oral.
