Mineral Deposit Geology
About
About the course
Course content
This course aims at providing an overview of the main types of metallic and non-metallic mineral deposits, their geological environments, geochemistry, mineralogy, structural geology and genetic constraints. It contains the following aspects: Distribution of economic mineral deposits with respect to their plate tectonic setting, lithological-stratigraphical environments, mineralogy, geochemistry, morphology and structural features. Laboratory investigations in macroscopic and microscopic scale, map studies. Mandatory field trip to Cornwall, SW-England (6-7 days)is included in the course.
Learning outcome
This course will provide basic insights into the genesis and geological appearance of mineral rawmaterials that are imperative for modern sustainable societies.
Learning methods and activities
Classes, Field work, Exercises. Report written as part of the Cornnwall excursion comprise 40 % of the final grade. The exam can be changed from written to oral at the postponed exams (continuation exam). Lectures are held in English if required.
