Course - Petrology and Geochemistry - TGB4130
Petrology and Geochemistry
About
About the course
Course content
The petrology part involves igneous and metamorphic processes and rocks. The geochemistry course includes nucleosynthesis, structure and composition and dynamics of the Solar system (focus on Earth and Moon) and isotope geochemistry. The practicals involves optical microscopy (2Ø) and hand specimen petrography, phase diagram interpretation and geochemical data manipulation.
Learning outcome
The course will provide a theoretical and practical foundation in the petrogenesis of igneous and metamorphic rocks and planetary geochemistry.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, practicals and field instruction. The course evaluation is based on practical tests (35%) and final exam (65%). If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
Compulsory assignments
- Field trip
- Exersices
Recommended previous knowledge
General knowledge of geology, mineralogy, petrography, including microscopy and of chemistry.
