About

About the course

Course content

This course will provide an introduction to methods used in the evaluation of the resource potential of a region. It will cover measurement, sampling and interpretation, univariate patterns in the design of mulitvariate analysis techniques for geochemical data evaluation, geostatistical principles, assessing dry probabilities in offshore oil and gas exploration, resource modelling and evaluation of prospectivity, remote sensing and geointelligence, optimal exploration strategies as well as the synthesis of resource assessments and operations research.

Learning outcome

Product goals:
Acquire methodological understanding and skills within-
Geostatistics, Remote Sensing, Operations Analysis, Analysis of Variance and Principle Component Analysis.
Master mathematical-statistical interpretation of geochemical exploration data as well as the evaluation og hydrocarbon basin prospectivity.
Process goals: Develop the capability of critical reflection as well as how to uncover the knowledge contained in complex research papers.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and exercise work. The exercises count 25% of the final mark. The exam can be changed from written to oral at the postponed exams (continuation exam). NOTE that the course is only offered once every second year. The next time will be in the autumn of 2011 thereafter in 2013. The production goal is a minimum of 10 students every second year.
