About the course
Course content
Factors that influence the internal and external environment. Occupational health and safety (OHS). Occupational diseases, accidents, including explosion and fire prevention measures. Work place investigations and OHS assesments. The course will also encompass aspects of environmental management including the ISO 14000 standards and the European EMAS system (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme).
Learning outcome
The subject shall give the students basic knowledge and understanding with focus on Health, Environment and Safety (HES) in the heavy industry, by the mineral industry and other rock construction and petroleum production. This includes risk evaluation, legislation, and responsibilities, environment, control system and measures, societal accept and sustainability. The subject is based on practical approach and examples.
Learning methods and activities
Field work, exercises and project. Exercises and project count 25% of final mark. Exursion is part of the subject. The exam can be changed from written to oral at the postponed exams (contnuation exam).
