Resource Geology, Specialization Project
About
About the course
Course content
Most of our industrial products are one or the other way connected to the exploitation of geological resources. The subject Resource geology covers both the exploration for and the quantification of the geological conditions that controls the accumulation and economic recoverability of hydrocarbon- or mineral resources. The following themes can be chosen for in-depth projects: Resource mapping, Regional resource forecasts, Accounting and management of resources, Basin analysis, Petroleum systems, Play analysis, Prospect evaluation, Regional petroleum geology, Industrial minerals and Metallic mineral resources.
Learning outcome
Industrial commodities comprise raw materials that at least partially are derived or modified from geological resources. The short term as well as the long term requirements for experts in geological resources far exceeds the current production of candidates with a specialisation in this topic. In this topic we are studying the formation and sustainable exploitation of geological resources. Project work may comprise mapping and formation of geological resources, mining and processesing methods and resource management. Examples of geological resources includes industrial minerals such as rutile, calcite and quartz; metallic resources such as gold, nickel and zinc; and hydrocarbon resources such as coal, oil and gass. Water, dimension stone and gravel are other examples of geological resources.
Learning methods and activities
Supervised project work.
Recommended previous knowledge
The student is required to have completed courses that are relevant for the chosen project in Recourses Geology, either according to the study guide or, in rare cases, courses that are acknowledged by a faculty member.
