Course content

The course provides an introduction to organisational theory. The students will also get some training and insight in teamwork. The course will also cover juridical aspects. Introduction in social science methods.

Learning outcome

Objectives for TIØ4101 Organization Theory and Corporate Law: Topic position and function in the study: The course is mandatory in 1 year courses in the program MTIØT, and will specifically help to meet learning objectives 2.1 of the detailed learning guide for MTIØT where a required "Broadcast and sound basic knowledge in administrative and economic areas." The course shall convey the following skills: - General knowledge of organizational theory, specific knowledge of the models to structure the business and historical development in this area. Specific knowledge of models for HR management, motivation theories, and personnel management. Specific knowledge of political organization theory, including models of power and conflict resolution. Specific knowledge of symbols and organization culture. Specific knowledge of corporate law and working environment legislation. This course will provide students with skills to: Evaluate and analyze the state of a company with respect to four different perspectives and to suggest and formulate measures for further development. Other important aims: - Students will, through a major project in a real business, obtain training in analyzing the state of a business, and learn to take written arguments about professional challenges and alternative solutions. Students acquire the skills to work in teams as part of the project work.

The overall assessment in the course consists of two school examinations: The first examination counts for 30 per cent of the total grade and is an assessment of the candidate's knowledge of company law and employment law. The second examination counts for 70 per cent of the total grade and is an assessment of the candidate's knowledge in organizational theory.

There are two compulsory exercises that must be approved before the candidate can take the exam. The exercises are carried out in groups where the first exercise is about teamwork and the second exercise is an organizational analysis of a real company. For re-sit examination, the examination may be changed to oral. The student is only entitled to a postponed exam in partial assessments that have not been passed or in the event of a valid absence. For voluntary repetition of the exam, all parts of the course must be taken again.
