Course - Basic Organic Chemistry - TKJ4102
Basic Organic Chemistry
New from the academic year 2010/2011
About
About the course
Course content
The lectures and exercises cover basic organic chemical consepts such as chemical structures and nomenclature, stereochemistry and an examination of the principal functional groups of carbon compounds and the relationship of their structure to physical and chemical properties. Reaction mechanisms are presented to give further insight in chemical transformations.
Learning outcome
The course will give the student the theoretical knowledge of basic organic chemistry.
Learning methods and activities
TKJ4102 is the theoretical course in basic organic chemistry for students enrolled in the Ms. Tech. program. TKJ4102 consists of lectures (4 hours per week) and exercises (2 hours per week). The final written exam (4 hours) is evaluated and graded by letter. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
Recommended previous knowledge
A prerequisite is to have passed courses equivalent to TMT4115 General Chemistry 1, TMT4120 General Chemistry 2 (see course description for 2009/10), and TMT4130 Inorganic Chemistry or alternatively KJ1000 General Chemistry and KJ1030 Inorganic Chemistry.
