Entropy and Boltzmann distribution law, Free energies, Partition functions, Chemical equilibrium, Kinetics, Electrostatics and Intermolecular forces, Electrolytes, Cooperativity, Adsorption, Catalysis, Water, Polymers.
Learning outcome
The course introduces the basis of statistical thermodynamics with examples from chemistry and biology.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
Recommended previous knowledge
Knowledge corresponding to the following courses: Physics 2 (TFY4170), General Chemistry (TMT4110), Calculus 4 (TMA4130) and Statistics (TMA4245).
