Course - Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer - TKP4100
Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer
About
About the course
Course content
Introductory theory of mechanics, fluid statics, principles of fluid motion. Viscosity, Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, viscous incompressible flow. Mechanical energy balance and momentum balance in one dimension. Drag and pressure loss in pipes and fittings. Compressible flow in pipes and nozzles. Flow around complex geometries.
Thermal conduction in planar and cylindrical geometries, forced and free convective heat transfer. Dimensional analysis of heat transfer and heat transfer correlations. Boiling and condensation. Radiation in simple geometries.
Learning outcome
The course is aimed at giving a fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics together with an operational knowledge of practical fluid flow and heat transfer calculations normally encountered in the process industry.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures with worked through examples. Compulsory exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral. The course is taught in Norwegian.
Compulsory assignments
